About us

We are Mod, a collective of Playful Activists who use games and playable experiences to modify our world. Playful activism is a specific type of creative activism that invites audiences as participants to play, sparks moments of activation and connection towards social change.

Mod was born out of the innovative practice of interactive theatre-makers Coney.

We actively invite audiences to experience & participate: All our work is participatory and playful, whether that is audiences following an audio trail, playing a game or participating in a workshop.

We spark curiosity and discovery: Often we are working with clear education objectives and outcomes, and regularly in school contexts and with education institutions.

We use digital play : We are industry leaders in creating playful technological practice, often as a tool that audiences can use to discover the environment around them and the stories hidden within: an archival history, an alternative reality or a possible future.

We are playful activists: We use play as a way to invite audiences to connect to each other, and the world around them, activating them towards new behaviours and relationships. Mostly our work is concerned with community-led responses to the climate emergency, and moving audiences from a place of awareness of climate change towards action for climate justice.

We are values driven: Mod are experienced makers of socially engaged projects, and over years of collaboration have developed a rich value-led approach. Our Playful Activism practice is rooted in care, curiosity, compassion and creativity

We are creators: We have a track-record of delivering ambitious creative work with high-quality outputs, which invite communities into the creative process, creating opportunities for deep engagement and meaningful outcomes and impact.
